How are Frozen Meals Available?

Complete meals cost $5.00 each, desserts $4.00 each.
Orders are placed at the begining of every month.
Food is delivered to Home Support office. Clients can pick up their orders at their convenience.

What Kinds of Meals are Available

Meals include a main dish based on beef, pork, chicken, fish or pasta. Many meals include side dishes such as potato, rice or noodles, as well as a side vegetable.

• Cabbage Rolls (GF)
• Sausage Penne Casserole- Octoberfest Sausage with onions, mushrooms, peppers in a tomato sauce
• Shepherd's Pie (GF)- Hamburg/onions/mixed veg/potato
• Chicken Teriyaki Bowl- Strips of chicken/ roast veg/ potato
• Pork Cutlet in Mushroom Sauce- Roast potatoes/cabbage/onion
• Honey Garlic Meatballs- Hamburg in homemade sacue/rice/zucc/mushrooms, peppers
• Haddock with Dill Sauce (GF)- Fish/Rice Pilaf/peas and onions
• Brownie, Date Squares, Lemon Cake with Blueberries, Carrot Cake

What Is It And How It Works

This is an automated system that is designated to call clients at a set time daily to confirm that they are okay. It is a tool which helps the client to remain at home comfortable with the knowledge that if they cannot answer for some reason or other, assistance will be forthcoming.

If the client doesn’t answer after a preset number of call attempts, an ALERT is issued to the designated person of your choice. A complete background information of the client is printed out in the Home Support office, including doctor’s name and address, nearest friend or relative and medical history so that we can best get the assistant needed. 

This services also offers Medication reminder calls which can be setup to call/remind you several times per day as needed. 

Things To Remember

*Please notify us if you are not going to be home for your call. You may call anytime day or night and leave a message on our answering machine 613-756-2772 ext 1
*If you are hurt and need help— do not answer your phone at the pre arranged time for your call or the 2 calls that follow. Help will then be sent to you.

What fees will I have to pay for this service?

There is no fee for this service.

A Home Support volunteer will call clients signed up for this service to provide a support and reassurance call to those seniors who are feeling lonely and confined to their homes.

Telephone Reassurance is available to seniors (60 plus)and the physically challenged who live in the Townships of:

A Partnership between St. Francis Memorial Hospital and Barry’s Bay & Area Senior Citizens Home Support Services

What are Meals on Wheels?

•   Fresh and delicious, hot meals are prepared by the dietary
    staff of St. Francis Memorial Hospital.
•   Meals are delivered between 12-1pm Mon-Fri.
•   Clients pay $5 per meal.

Are Special Diets Available?

Yes, you can request a Regular, Dental Soft, Diabetic and Gluten free meals

Who can use the Transportation Service?

The transportation service is available to seniors (60 plus) and the physically challenged who live in the Townships of:

What can I use the service for?

Volunteer drivers will pick you up at your home at the time you ask and they will take you on either a local drive or an out-of-town drive.

Local: Local transportation is available for necessary shopping, banking, postal services, etc. There is a time limit on this service of 2 hours maximum. Also available locally are trips to medical appointments which do not have a time limit (doctor, hospital, dental, etc.).

Out-of-Town: Out of town transportation is available for medical appointments ONLY. The client is taken directly to and from their medical appointment by the volunteer driver who stays with them for the entire trip.

Clients pay a fee at the time of the drive and the driver gives a receipt that must be signed. The client is also responsible for any parking fees associated with the drive. If a meal is had on the way, the client is not responsible for the driver’s meal.

Home Support Drivers

All of the drivers from Home Support are volunteers are trained by staff. They are also all screened using a OPP Police /Vulnerable Sector Check. Drivers are instructed on the importance of being courteous and attentive to your needs and have been asked not to smoke, play loud music or speed. Drivers are also informed about the importance of confidentiality of information they receive while performing a drive. If you have complaints about a particular drive or driver please call the home support office about your complaint.

Clients are asked to show the same courtesies to drivers, as they are a volunteer donating their time.
Clients are asked to be ready at the scheduled times.

Who can use Assisted Living Services?

The transportation service is available to people who meet these criteria:

• Must be 65 years or older or have a geriatric profile
• Must meet eligiblity criteria as determined by an assessment process with LHIN Home and Community Care
• Must reside in a designated geographic service area
• Must be able to remain safely at home between visits
• Must be able to direct their own care or have a substitue decision maker to direct care
• May live alone or with a caregiver
• Must not pose a risk to themselves or others
• Must be medically stable

What type of Assisted Living Services are available?

• Personal care
• Light housekeeping
• Medication prompts and compliance
• Exercises
• Meal preparation
• Laundry & linen change
• Security checks
• Emergency Response System installed in the home
• 24-hour urgent response

How do I apply?

To apply, call Home Support at 613-756-2772 or drop by our office.

A referral must be sent by one of the following:

• Pyhsician
• Hospital Discharge Planner
• Community Support Service Agency
• LHIN Home and Community Care Case Manager
• Caregiver or self

Admission to Assisted Living Service is completed by our community partner LHIN Home and Community Care through their Central Intake Process. Once the client is assessed, the Community Support Service Agency in the geographic area will contact the client to discuss the services. If the program is full, the senior will be put on a waiting list.

The care plan for the individual is developed by the senior and the Care Coordinator, to best meet the needs and maintain the independence of the individual.

Is there a fee for Assisted Living Services?

There is no fee for seniors who are eligible to receive Assisted Living Services. The cost is funded through the Champlain Local Health Integration Network and Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

Donations receipts issued for gifts of $10.00 or more.
